New York Giants waiving QB Tommy DeVito

Fan favorite QB not added to 53 man roster

Tommy DeVito Released as Giants Trim Roster

The New York Giants have parted ways with quarterback Tommy DeVito as they finalize their 53-man roster for the 2025 season.

DeVito entered camp as the lone quarterback with prior Giants experience, but the offseason additions of Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, along with standout rookie Jaxson Dart, pushed him out of the mix. Carrying four quarterbacks is uncommon, so DeVito’s release was not unexpected. There remains a chance he could return to the practice squad if another team doesn’t claim him.

In what could be his last outing with the team, DeVito shined during the preseason finale against New England, throwing three touchdowns while completing 17 of 20 passes for nearly 200 yards in a lopsided win.

The Cedar Grove, New Jersey native first signed with the Giants as an undrafted free agent in 2023 after time at Syracuse and Illinois. He quickly became a fan favorite during a difficult season, leading the team to three straight victories and injecting life into a struggling offense. Those wins tied an NFL record for rookie undrafted quarterbacks, and his late-game heroics against Green Bay that year highlighted his brief but memorable run.

Over two seasons, DeVito appeared in five games with three starts, posting 1,358 passing yards, eight touchdowns, and three interceptions. While his production dipped last year, his underdog story earned him recognition around the league.

Now 27, DeVito faces an uncertain future. Whether he lands back with the Giants’ practice squad or finds a new opportunity elsewhere, his time in New York brought an unexpected spark and a short but entertaining chapter for the franchise.
