DK Metcalf two-game suspension upheld

The ruling was made by commissioner designee Chris Palmer, according to the league.
The NFL confirmed Tuesday that Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf will serve a two-game suspension after an appeal was denied. The ruling was made by commissioner designee Chris Palmer, according to the league.
Metcalf was disciplined for conduct the NFL described as confronting a fan during Sunday’s game in Detroit. With the suspension standing, he’s set to miss Week 17 vs. Cleveland and Week 18 vs. Baltimore, then would be eligible to return if Pittsburgh reaches the postseason.
The punishment is also expected to cost Metcalf more than $500,000 in lost game checks. Reports from NFL Network add that, because the suspension falls under conduct detrimental language tied to his four-year extension, the Steelers have the option to wipe out a large chunk of future guarantees—though the team is said to still view him as part of its long-term plans.
The situation stems from video that circulated after the Steelers’ win at Ford Field, showing Metcalf moving toward a front-row spectator and making contact. He wasn’t penalized during the game and did not receive an ejection because the incident occurred away from the field of play.
NFL Network reported the fan and Metcalf may have prior history dating back to last season, when Metcalf was still with Seattle. One account connected to Metcalf claims the fan used a derogatory insult involving Metcalf and his mother, while the fan later denied using racial language or hate speech.
Meanwhile, reports indicate the league and/or Lions are still reviewing whether any action will be taken regarding the fan involved. Pittsburgh enters the final two weeks holding a two-game edge over Baltimore in the AFC North, and can secure the division with one more Steelers win or a Ravens loss.
