Packers' Jordan Love surgery should be ready for Week 1

After struggling with injuries for much of last season, Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love opted to have surgery on his left thumb, which is his non-throwing hand. The procedure, performed in Los Angeles on Tuesday, addressed a UCL ligament injury he suffered during Saturday’s preseason opener against the New York Jets.
Love explained that the decision was driven by the desire to enter the season fully healthy, especially after dealing with multiple injuries last year. During that season, he missed the second and third games following a sprained MCL in the season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles in Brazil, and he also contended with a groin injury later on.
Despite the thumb injury, Love participated in Monday’s practice with his thumb taped. While he could perform all drills, he adapted by using his right hand for handoffs instead of his injured left hand. The timing of the injury allowed for surgery and a full recovery before Week 1, a move that would not have been possible in the middle of the season.
At Thursday’s practice, Love’s left hand was heavily wrapped, and he has not thrown since the procedure. Coach Matt LaFleur indicated that he does not expect Love to throw immediately but anticipates some level of participation in practice next week.
