The New York Giants have told Cam Skattebo they would prefer he skip the backflips, particularly with training camp underway.
General manager Joe Schoen said the club spoke with Skattebo after the running back’s unsuccessful backflip attempt at a Fanatics Fest event roughly two weeks ago. The stunt drew added attention because Skattebo had been rehabbing a fractured tibia and right ankle dislocation.
“He knows I’d rather him not do that, especially this close to camp,” Schoen said. He also pointed to the work of the Giants’ training and medical staffs in getting Skattebo ready for camp.

Coach John Harbaugh said the discussion fits into the team’s regular communication with its players. He said he and Skattebo have had five or six good conversations since the running back returned, describing Skattebo as someone who listens, talks and wants to improve.
Skattebo has pushed back on the idea that backflips are dangerous and said he plans to do one after his first touchdown of the season. Still, the Giants’ message is centered on preserving his health and availability.
For now, Skattebo has been cleared for camp and is handling a full workload. Beat reporters have observed him operating as New York’s clear No. 1 running back so far, ahead of Tyrone Tracy Jr.
