A.J. Brown says he has already learned about 90 percent of the New England Patriots offense as training camp gets underway.
The new Patriots receiver said he is in a good place with offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels’ scheme. Brown said the next step is putting it into practice and developing a daily rhythm with quarterback Drake Maye.
#Communication with Maye is the priority
Brown said getting aligned with Maye takes nonstop communication. He described the early work in camp as uneven at times, but his attention is on improving that connection each day.
#Vrabel’s message arrived early
Brown dropped a pass on the first day of practice, and he said coach Mike Vrabel addressed it during the first team meeting. Brown said he did not always appreciate that type of criticism early in his career, but now views it as a sign of expectations from both his coach and himself.
New England acquired Brown from Philadelphia to add a difference maker to an offense that needed more big-play ability. Brown’s early assessment suggests his installation work is largely complete; the ongoing task is converting that familiarity into execution with Maye.
