Cowboys Sign Javonte Williams to 3-Year, $24M Extension

Dallas agreed to a three-year, $24 million extension with RB Javonte Williams, including $16 million guaranteed, after his breakout 2025 season.

The Cowboys have agreed to a three-year, $24 million extension with running back Javonte Williams, with $16 million guaranteed. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport first reported the deal, and Dallas announced it shortly after.

#Contract impact

The timing is notable. Williams was approaching the March 9 free-agency negotiating window, but Dallas moved early to keep him in place after a major 2025 turnaround.

After arriving on a one-year, $3 million prove-it contract, Williams delivered one of the best seasons of his career. He ran for 1,201 yards and 11 touchdowns at 4.8 yards per carry, then added 35 receptions for 137 yards and two more scores.

His production gave the Cowboys a steadier run-pass balance than they had in recent years. For a player still just months from turning 26, Dallas appears to view this as strong value.

At roughly $8 million per year, Williams’ new average lands in the middle tier of veteran running back contracts, alongside Chicago’s D’Andre Swift and above former Cowboys back Tony Pollard’s current number in Tennessee. With Williams now extended, focus shifts to how Dallas handles wide receiver George Pickens.

#What it says about Dallas

The deal shows Dallas is willing to pay for offensive stability when the fit is clear. Williams gives the Cowboys a physical early-down runner who can also stay involved in the passing game, which matters for an offense trying to avoid predictable personnel groupings.

It also gives Dallas one less major offensive question entering the offseason. With Williams under contract, the front office can focus on the passing game, line depth, and how to keep the offense efficient around Dak Prescott.
